| www.raplamv.ee www.rapla.ee The Festival, which would have been banned during the Soviet occupation, could start with its events again in 1993, after Estonia had regained its independence, with the help of Finnish church musicians. The Festival aims to bring good music even to the smallest country churches in Estonia, focusing on high quality works of primarily sacred, but also of secular repertoire. Every year the events kicks off with a grand oratorio and here the annual performer is ensemble Tallinn Baroque Soloists. In 1997 the concert cycle spread out of the Rapla Church of Mary Magdalene and is held now in several neighbouring counties as well. Next to Estonian musicians the Festival has so far hosted guest artists from the Great Britain up to Russia, but also from the Scandinavian countries, Lithuania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Japan, and other countries. The patrons of the Festival are Archbishop of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church Andres Põder, the Estonian Ministry of Culture and various renowned musicians. Its major supporters are the Local Governments’ Development Fund of the Rapla County, the Estonian Ministers of Culture and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia. The Chief Organiser and Director of the Festival is its founder Raimo Kivistik. Artistic director Jakob Kukk. |
