The Pärnu Opera Music Festival - PromFest is a festival for lovers of opera music. The program of the festival concentrates mostly to young singers and audience and consists mostly of 4 different parts: the Klaudia Taev Competition for opera singers, the opera-production, the master-class and concerts. The history of the festival goes back to 1996 when the Klaudia Taev Competition for Young Opera Singers first took place. In 2009 it will take place already the sixth time. Klaudia Taev Competition, the only international competition for singers in Estonia, is the central event of the festival. The laureates of the competition will be in the cast of the festival's opera-project; winners will get the main roles. For the fourth time during the festival, an opera production will be staged in Pärnu theatre Endla with an international cast. The opera-production being Jules Massenet's Thais. It will be an original production, where traditionally the laureates of previous Klaudia Taev Competitions will sing the leading parts. In the title role is Veronika Dzhioeva from Russia and male main role will be performed by Ilya Silchukov from Belorussia. The legendary Mai Murdmaa - The Estonian Ballet's Grand Old Lady will direct the production. The first night of the opera will be on May 22nd and it will be performed only limited five times in Pärnu Endla and Tallinn Russian Theatre. The master-class is mostly for the Estonian singers - as festivals brings to Estonia many young singers and internationally acknowledged persons of the opera world, it gives also an opportunity for Estonian singers to learn from other singers of their generation and also visit the master-class held by one of the members of the Jury of the Competition. The festival's high point is the gala concert in the Pärnu Concert Hall, where the finalists of the Klaudia Taev competition will perform with the 21st Century Orchestra. This will be broadcasted by Estonian National Television and National Classical Radio. On a benefit concert at the small church of Kõpu the famous Lithuanian bass Vladimiras Prudnikovas will perform on June 9th. Also traditional Klaudia Taev memorial concert where the former students and the students of the students of Klaudia Taev will be performing will be held in luxurious Villa Ammende.
