Jõhvi International Ballet Festival, which is going to be held for the second time in 2009, is a unique event. The main acts of this year's festival, which will take place at the Jõhvi Concert Hall on 6-8 February 2009, are Age Oks and Toomas Edur of the London Royal Ballet. The festival will host performances of both Estonian and Russian professional theatres. In addition, it will feature the creative efforts of Estonian ballet schools and studios.

Young talented performers will be represented alongside well-known names. The programme of the festival is going to be very diverse to cater to the tastes of all ballet lovers. Outstanding ballet performances will please professionals as well as those viewers who have had no previous contact with ballet. Every year, the programme will also offer some exciting children's performances for the youngest ballet-goers. In addition to the performances, there are going to be master classes enabling young talented dancers to perfect their skills under the directions of both local and foreign great masters.

The festival will open with the Children's Ballet Gala and close with the ballet pupils of the Pärnu House of Arts. Estonian National Opera will bring Delibes' Coppelia and the Latvian National Opera Adam's Le Corsaire. The ballet gala will feature principal couples of the Scottish National Ballet (including the Estonian Eve Mutso-Oja), Czech National Theatre, Mariinsky Theatre, Hungarian National Ballet, theatres Estonia and Vanemuine. The artistic advisor of the festival is Age Oks.
