The first Festival in 1999, which focused then only on Estonian music, marked the opening of the new building of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EMTA) in Tallinn. In 2002 the Festival became international as it hosted performers and participants from the Music Academies of Amsterdam and Reykjavik. By now students, professors and ensembles of the Moscow and Lyon Conservatoires have already participated in the Tallinn Festival, among them a renowned ensemble "Atelier du Xxe“ from Lyon.
The Autumn Festival is organised by the EMTA Department of International and Public Relations. The programs include works of the EMA composition students as well as of celebrated contemporary composers. Besides the EMTA students one can hear performing acclaimed Estonian interpreters, among them internationally renowned new music performer NYYD Ensemble with conductor Olari Elts.
    These autumn music days, which offer besides concerts also CD and notes presentations, have caught the attention of above all young listeners and music students of the whole Estonian capital. Open concerts, master courses, lectures and a young composers' contest, organised by the EMTA, are held along the Festival.
