Viljandi Guitar Festival is a music event. The aim of the festival is to introduce and promote the musical style that synthesizes improvisational and traditional music. The festival would provide our younger generation of musicians with an opportunity to gain practical experience through workshops, as well as offer them a chance to see professionals performing on the stage. The idea of the festival is best expressed through focusing at one particular instrument – the guitar. Within the festival, a two-day workshop conducted by a world-famous and renowned guitar performer is designed for the Estonian guitar students. At the moment we are negotiating to find the musician who would both conduct these workshops and be the main act of the festival. In addition to the workshops, Viljandi Guitar Festival will also include a number of concerts featuring Estonian musicians, who have already agreed to perform: Tanel Ruben and Toomas Vanem, Weekend Guitar Trio, Tiit Paulus, Riho Sibul, Jaak Sooäär, etc. The Finnish guitar player Marzi Nyman has also agreed to perform at the festival. During the festival the Tiit Paulus Young Guitar Player Prize will be awarded, helping an outstanding young Estonian musician to further his or her guitar playing skills. The festival will be organized in cooperation with the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy and Viljandi Town Government, which have already promised to give every assistance to the Viljandi Guitar Festival.
